been restored to 20,000 properties, while there are 2,700 homes without power
in England and 460 in Wales.

murder probe over lawyer Nozdrovska's death
Ukrainian
police have opened a murder investigation after the body of a lawyer and human
rights activist was found in a river in the capital Kiev.Iryna Nozdrovska, 38, went missing
on 29 December. She had worked on the case of her sister, who was killed in
2015 by a car driven by the nephew of a Kiev judge.The driver, Dmytro
Rossoshansky, was jailed for seven years in May 2017.
Iryna
Nozdrovska had allegedly received threats from him and his father.The BBC has
not seen confirmation of those threats.
Her body
was found in Vyshhorod district, a northern suburb of Kiev. The
police there had issued a missing persons notice (in Ukrainian)
about her on 30 December on Facebook.

has blocked the $1.2bn (£880m) sale of money transfer firm Moneygram to China's
Ant Financial, the digital payments arm of Alibaba.

Sydney
seaplane crash: Wreckage to be recovered from river
A
seaplane that crashed and killed six people - including five Britons - is
expected to be raised from an Australian river this week so it can be
forensically examined, authorities say.
The cause
of the New Year's Eve crash north of Sydney is not yet known.
It claimed
the lives of Compass Group chief Richard Cousins, four members of his family,
and a Sydney-based Canadian pilot. There were no survivors.
Investigators
will release a preliminary report in about 30 days.
US
soldier killed and four wounded on Afghanistan border
A US
service member was killed and four US troops were wounded during a "combat
engagement" in Afghanistan on New Year's Day, the Pentagon has said.
The soldier
died in Achin, Nangarhar province, along the Pakistan border - an area which
has become a stronghold for the so-called Islamic State (IS).
The
Pentagon did not release additional details or identify the US soldier who was
killed.
"We
are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own," an official said.
"At
this very difficult time our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and
friends of our fallen and wounded brothers," said Army Gen John Nicholson,
commander of US forces in Afghanistan.
At least 15
Americans died in Afghanistan in 2017, according to icasulties.org, which

Italy
motorway crash: Six dead as tanker explodes near Brescia
Six
people, including two children, were killed in a crash and explosion on a
motorway in northern Italy.
Reports
said a lorry shunted a family car into the back of a tanker truck, causing it
to explode on the A21 near Brescia.
The lorry
driver died as did three adults and the two children who were travelling in the
car.
The Kia car
had a French number plate according to reports quoted by AFP news agency.
Italian TV
said the crash happened as traffic on the motorway was backing up because of an
earlier accident.
Smoke from
the explosion could be seen for several miles.
Polar bear cub in Berlin Tierpark zoo dies after 26 days
A baby
polar bear cub has died in a Berlin zoo.
Officials
at Berlin's Tierpark zoo said that the young polar bear, which was born in December,
was found dead when the zoo re-opened on Tuesday.
The cub had
appeared to be healthy when it was last seen with its mother on New Year's Eve
and appeared to have died of natural causes, the zoo said.
The zoo in
the German capital had been closed between New Year's Eve on Sunday and
Tuesday.
