Germany:
Plane and helicopter crash in mid-air, killing four
A small
plane and a helicopter have collided in south-western Germany killing four
people, police say.
A rescue
helicopter which had been on a training flight was involved in the crash above
the town of Philippsburg, air rescue organisation DRF said.
The cause
of the crash is still unclear. The area where it happened has been cordoned
off.
DRF said
the victims were the two helicopter pilots and the two occupants of the plane.
"We do
not yet know who was in which aircraft," a police spokesman was quoted as
saying by German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.
He declined
to say whether there may be other victims.
The crash
scene is about five kilometres (three miles) east of Philippsburg, a town which
has an operating nuclear power plant.
Syria
war: Thousands flee Turkish assault on Afrin enclave
An
estimated 5,000 people have been displaced by clashes between Turkish-led
forces and Kurdish fighters in north-western Syria, the UN says.
The
civilians have fled communities near the border since Turkey launched an
offensive to drive a Kurdish militia out of the Afrin region on Saturday.
Some are
reported to have been prevented from crossing into territory controlled by the
Syrian government.
The UN said
it was ready to deliver aid to 50,000 people in Afrin if required.

school shooting: Two teenagers dead and 17 injured
Two
people have been killed and 17 injured in a high school shooting in the US
state of Kentucky.
A
15-year-old girl died at the scene at Marshall County High School in the town
of Benton and a 15-year-old boy died in hospital, said Kentucky's governor.
The
attacker, a 15-year-old male student, was arrested in "a non-violent
apprehension", officials said.
State
police said the unidentified boy was held about 15 minutes after opening fire
at 08:00 local time on Tuesday.

trade deal progresses with Canada and without US

Asia-Pacific trade pact that US President Donald Trump ditched last year is
expected to be signed in March.
Eleven
countries will meet in Chile in March to ink the agreement, which is known as

One of the
world's largest trade agreements, it was boosted on Tuesday when Canada said it
would join.
The country
had refused to sign an earlier version over concerns about environmental and
labour protections.
The new TPP
also includes Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru,
Singapore and Vietnam.
China is
not included in the pact, which was conceived in part as a way to counter the
country's surging power in Asia.
Japanese
Economy Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said the agreement will be an "engine

Naples
woman killed in 'mafia ambush'
A woman
was fatally shot three times in the face near central Naples in what police
suspect was a mafia killing.
Mafia
suspect Annamaria Palmieri, 54, had previous convictions for handling stolen
property, criminal association and drugs, Italian media report.The shooting
took place in San Giovanni a Teduccio, just east of Naples port.
Women often
play major roles in the family-based crime gangs in Naples, collectively known
as the Camorra, an expert on the mafia told the BBC.

At least
27 dead in twin Benghazi car bombs
At least
27 people have been killed in two car bombs near a mosque in the Libyan city of
Benghazi.
Varying
reports say 20 to 30 more were wounded by the blasts, which took place within
minutes of each other.
The first
vehicle blew up in front of a mosque in the central al-Sleimani neighbourhood,
as worshippers were leaving the building after evening prayers.
A second
car exploded soon afterwards on the other side of the street.
Both
military personnel and civilians are among the victims. The number of
fatalities may rise, a spokeswoman for the local al-Jala hospital told AFP news
agency.
It is not
yet clear who was behind the bloodshed. The BBC's North Africa Correspondent
Rana Jawad says many bombings of this kind go unclaimed in Libya.
Syria
war: Row over Turkey using German-made tanks
The
German government is facing calls to halt arms exports to Turkey after reports
emerged that German-made Leopard tanks were being used in an offensive against

school attack: Pupil 'killed by classmate' near Dortmund
A pupil
at secondary school near the German city of Dortmund has been killed by a
fellow classmate, according to police.
Reports say
a 15-year-old student stabbed a 14-year-old boy.
The attack
happened at around 08:00 local time (07:00 GMT) at the Käthe Kollwitz
comprehensive school in the town of Lünen.
One
teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Pastors are at the school to
support pupils and parents.
Police say
they are investigating and have not released any further details.

Public

and changes to contributions.
