in court over alleged plot to kill PM
A man is
due to appear in court later over an alleged plot to kill the prime minister,
Theresa May.
The BBC understands
Naa'imur Zakariyah Rahman, 20, from north London, is accused of planning to
bomb Downing Street security gates and then attack the PM with a knife.A second
man, Mohammed Aqib Imran, 21, of Birmingham, is accused of the preparation of
terrorist acts for allegedly planning to travel overseas.
They were
both arrested on 28 November.
The pair
are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court, in central London.
It comes a
day after a security review said it was "conceivable" that the
Manchester Arena bombing in May, in which 22 people were killed, could have
been prevented.
But MI5
chief Andrew Parker told Mrs May and the Cabinet on Tuesday that about nine
alleged Islamist terror plots have been foiled since March.

US to
recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital
Donald
Trump is expected later to fulfil an election campaign promise by recognising Jerusalem as the
capital of Israel. The status of the city - a holy site for
Israelis and Palestinians - is highly contentious, with one Arab leader
describing the US president's plan to move his country's embassy from Tel Aviv
to Jerusalem as "a flagrant provocation to Muslims".
But Trump's
administration officials said recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital was
"a recognition of reality".
Israel has
always regarded Jerusalem as its capital city, while the Palestinians claim
East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state. The US, in
recognising Israel's claim, would become the first country to do so since
Israel was created in 1948.
Mr Trump is
expected to deliver a speech on the subject later. Meanwhile. the BBC's Erica

Dixon: Tributes to officer killed in crash
Tributes
have been paid to an on-duty police officer who died along with a 91-year-old
woman following a crash on the A4 in Berkshire.PC James Dixon died after the motorcycle he was
riding was in collision with a
car on Bath Road near Hare Hatch on Tuesday afternoon.
He had
appeared in the Sky TV programme Road Wars.
The
pensioner, who was a passenger in the car, was also killed while the female
driver was taken to hospital.
Thames
Valley Police said the next-of-kin of both PC Dixon and the dead woman had been

biggest rock star Johnny Hallyday has died after a battle with lung cancer. He
was 74.
The singer
sold about 100 million records and starred in a number of films in a career
that began in 1960.
He was made

The French
simply called him "Our Johnny". However, outside the Francophone

They were
also accused of possession of bomb-making material and weapons.
Caruana

Australian
man trafficked wife and baby to India, police say
A man
accused of forcing his wife and baby daughter to travel from Australia to India
has been charged with human trafficking in Sydney.
Police say
the man, 27, used threats, coercion and deception to force his wife and
two-month-old girl to leave against the woman's will in March.
He then
allegedly tried to cancel his India-born wife's Australian visa.
The man
faced a Sydney court on Tuesday on three charges, including human trafficking
and forgery of documents.
"It is
a disturbing case where we see a victim and their young child transported from
Australia to a foreign jurisdiction without any means for them to return
home," said Australian Federal Police Supt Dan Evans.
Two
Singapore 'Airbnb hosts' charged for illegal home stays
Two men
have been charged in Singapore for illegally renting out their homes for
short-term stays via Airbnb, according to local media.
It is the
first known case of its kind since new laws against home sharing came into
effect in June.
Under the
changes, it is illegal to rent out, sublet or share a residential property for
less than three months.
Property
agents, Terence Tan En Wei and Tao Songliang, are expected to plead guilty, the
Straits Times reported.
Reports say
the accused worked together to rent out four apartments for short-term stays
without permission from local authorities.
If
convicted, the two men could face fines up to $200,000 Singapore dollars
($149,000; £110,000).

bone' proved to be correct age
The bone
claimed to be from St Nicholas has been radio carbon tested for the first timeA
fragment of bone claimed to be from St Nicholas - the 4th-Century saintly
inspiration for Father Christmas - has been radio carbon tested by the
University of Oxford.
The test
has found that the relic does date from the time of St Nicholas, who is
believed to have died about 343AD.
While not
providing proof that this is from the saint, it has been confirmed as
authentically from that era.
The Oxford
team says these are the first tests carried out on the bones.
Relics of
St Nicholas, who died in modern-day Turkey, have been kept in the crypt of a
church in Bari in Italy since the 11th Century
The radio
carbon dating tests, for the Oxford Relics Cluster at Keble College's Advanced
Studies Centre, have confirmed that the bone is from the correct era for St
Nicholas.
Germany train: Collision near Düsseldorf injures dozens
More
than 40 people have been injured in a train crash near the German city of
Düsseldorf, emergency services say.
A passenger
train collided with a freight train near the town of Meerbusch, in North
Rhine-Westphalia, on Tuesday night.
Of 173
people on board, seven people were badly injured and one suffered serious
injuries, the Meerbusch fire department said.
Another 33
people had minor injuries and 132 were unhurt, it added.
The fire
department's operation finished at around 02:20 (00:20 GMT).
All
passengers had left the train in a rescue operation that at its peak involved
400 people, it said.
German
firms may reconsider UK links without Brexit clarity
German
firms will reconsider their trade links to the UK if there is no clarity on a
Brexit deal by March, the country's business lobby has warned.
Joachim
Lang, head of the powerful BDI, told the BBC there was "a certain
urgency" for companies that do business in Britain.
After
meeting with the UK government, he said firms would need a year to brace for a
"no deal" scenario.
The BDI
recently asked its members to prepare for a "very
hard Brexit".
"We
cannot wait until March 2019, that's obvious," Mr Lang said, referring to
the date on which Britain is due to leave the European Union.
"You
need to be prepared, otherwise the damage will be much bigger, and in these
contingency, plans, one year ahead - that's pretty normal, so we need decisions
by March 2018."
First
tax havens blacklist published by EU
The
European Union has published its first blacklist of tax havens, naming 17 territories
including Saint Lucia, Barbados and South Korea.
A
"watchlist" of 47 countries promising to change their tax rules to
meet EU standards has also been issued.
The
"grey list" includes several with UK links, including Hong Kong,
Jersey, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, as well as Switzerland and Turkey.

former King Michael I dies at age of 96
King
Michael I was diagnosed with cancer last yearRomania's former King Michael I

Michael ruled Romania twice, from 1927 to 1930 and then from 1940 to 1947,

The death

child migrant tests 'reveal many adults'
A
Swedish investigation into migrants claiming asylum as children suggests that
three-quarters of those tested were over the age of 18.
Sweden's
national forensic medicine agency checked the age of nearly 8,000 people and
found that some 6,600 were 18 or over.
The checks
were only carried out in cases where there were doubts as to the person's age.
Child
migrants are less likely to be sent back to their country of origin.
Between
mid-March and late October, the agency (Rättsmedicinalverket) carried out a
total of 7,858 age assessments.
